EDUCATION:

B.S.- Northern Michigan University

Coach Johnson is entering his sixth season as the head coach at HCC.  He has guided the Cardinals to MCAC State/Regional Tournaments in 2009, 2011 & 2012.  Coach Johnson was named 2011-12 Northern Division Coach of the year. His Cardinals finished the conference season at 9-3 and were Co-Champions of the Northern Division. In five seasons at the helm, Coach Johnson has had 14 players move on to play at Four-Year Colleges and Universities.  Prior to taking the helm at HCC, he was an assistant at HCC, for Mike Turnbull, for one season and an assistant for Ellen Thompson, at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN for one season. 

Coach Johnson played collegiately at Northland College in Ashland, WI and Finlandia University in Hancock, MI.  He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration and History from Northern Michigan University and is currently finishing up a Masters degree in Athletic Administration.  As a student-athlete, at Northland and Finlandia, he was a 3 year starter.  He was selected Freshmen of the Year, and named to 4 All-Tournament teams. 

As a prep basketball standout at Gladstone High School, Johnson was selected All-Great Northern Conference and All-Upper Peninsula first team during his senior season in 1998-99.  He also was a two time UP State Champion in tennis and named first team All-State in 1999. 

Johnson is married to the former Kate Ludlow and resides in Hibbing. They have two children, Drake(7) and Lillie(5). He is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the National Junior College Basketball Coaches Association, and the Minnesota High School Coaches Association.
