Student Testing and Registration -STAR Sessions
Students registering as new students are required to attend a Student Testing and Registration (STAR) Session. New students are mailed postcards of upcoming STAR Sessions with their acceptance letter.
STAR Sessions - Star sessions welcome students to campus and cover a variety of topics including goal setting; discovering learning resources and educational policies; an introduction to personal and financial planning; and a tutorial on the campus web registration system.
Testing - All students are required to also complete Accuplacer placement testing in reading, English, and math. In April and May, STAR Sessions have separate days for Accuplacer testing and Student Registration. Summer Star Sessions have both parts combined. Students who will be attending HCC from out of the immediate area may be able to complete assessment testing by contacting another Minnesota State College and University closer to one's home. Students who opt to do testing before attending a STAR Session need to make sure testing scores are mailed or faxed (218) 263-2992 to HCC in advance as well as bringing a copy of the results to your STAR Registration Session.
Transfer Students - Transfer students must have official transcripts sent to the college and bring unofficial transcripts as well as Accuplacer scores to a STAR Session. Transfer students without this information will be required to complete Accuplacer testing.
Immunization - Students who have not submitted immunization information must bring the list of dates to a STAR Registration Session.
Students who would like to access their student record before a Star Session make click on the link below. Students will not be able to register without a registration access code given at that session.
