Financial Aid
Grants
Grants are gift awards based on need and are not repaid. Students apply for grants by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. Hibbing's 6-digit federal school code is 002355.
Available Federal Grants include:
Pell Grant
- must have earned a High School Diploma or equivalent to receive Federal aid
- must be an undergraduate student that has not earned a four-year degree
- may only receive a Pell grant for the equivalent of six full-time years
- must be enrolled in at least one class and working toward an eligible certificate or degree at HCC
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- must have earned a High School Diploma or equivalent to receive Federal aid
- awarded to high need students who are also eligible for a Pell Grant
- up to $600 per year

Available State Grants include:
Minnesota State Grant
- awarded to eligible Minnesota residents
- must be an undergraduate student that has not earned a four-year degree
- awards are made to students enrolled 3 or more credits
- award amounts vary by credit level
- can receive grant for a maximum of 8 full-time semesters.
Post-Secondary Child Care Grant
- awarded to Minnesota residents that have daycare expenses
- based on income, family size and credit level
- must be enrolled for 6 or more credits
- separate application required
- student may not be receiving MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program) funding

Alliss Grants
Alliss Foundation Grant
- a Minnesota resident
- have been out of high school for at least seven years
- either enrolling in college for the first time, or I have not been enrolled in any college for at least the past seven years
- have not earned a bachelor's degree or higher
- the selected course must be part of an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree program. Certificate and diploma programs are ineligible as are on-the-job and customized training courses.
Please note the following:
- An Alliss grant will be for one semester only.
- The grant will be limited to one course.
- An Alliss grant will cover tuition and books for up to five (5) credits.
- Other grants/waivers will be subtracted from the Alliss grant.
- Applications are accepted only at the time of registration.
