Vannevar Bush - American Electrical Engineer
(1890 - 1974)
June 1942
Vannevar Bush reports to the President that the bomb program has reached the production stage and advises that the military should take over control of plant construction. On June 17, Colonel James Marshall of the Army Corps of Engineers is placed in charge of the program and selects Stone and Webster as general contractor. However, the OSRD is left in charge of research and development of pilot processes, an arrangment which proves to be untenable.
