The Advisory Committee on Uranium, now called the S-1 section, meets to establish the first timetables for bomb production. The first large scale contracts for research into isotope separation are also let.



The work of the next several months is divided between four groups headed by the following:
1. Harold Urey, Columbia
gaseous diffusion isotope separation
centrifuge isotope separation
heavy water investigations
2. Ernest Lawrence, Berkeley
electro-magnetic isotope separation
3. Arthur Compton, Chicago
chain reaction and weapon theory
4. Eger Murphree, Standard Oil
engineering aspects
