Francis Simon and his colleagues working at Oxford quantify the gaseous diffusion separation of U-235.
Gaseous Diffusion
makes use of the fact that the rate at which gas molecules diffuse through a porous barrier is inversely proportional to their mass. In other words, lighter molecules will pass through a barrier more quickly than heavier molecules. This method would eventually be used to separate U-235 from U-238 at Oak Ridge.
